New @ and # features are live

We've added a new set of features to the board to allow for easily tagging friends or following trending topics. I suspect over time the # list will have to grow naturally to become relevant. But for you go:

-You can @ mention another user in any thread and push them a notification, however it appears to be a bit touchy in recognizing cases. Please be careful with this or you may notify the wrong person. For example, I wanted to tag "MiNdErAsR" and was lazy and just typed "minderasr". The software did not match the user name and instead tried to tag a user name of "min" (who is an actual person here). However in other cases where I missed only a single cap, it corrected it and found the right user. Just be careful.

-In the body of a thread, multiple @ user names tags are separated by a space.

-If you only want to tag someone in a thread, you don't have to do a reply and put their name in (this would be kind of annoying anyway and add zero value to the thread actually). What you should do is at the top of the thread is a User Tag List where you can enter a user name of someone else. It pushes an alert and link to them. Note that adding multiple names in there is different and requires a ; between them.

-You can hashtag topics or replies

-You can subscribe to a hash tag to receive notifications when that hashtag is used (no email alerts, only within your notifications panel)

-You can be notified when a response of theirs is quoted by someone else

-You should notice a number of new set of notifications items in their Your Notifications link at the top the page where it say Welcome xxx.

-Once you view the notifications through that menu for tags/mentions, those alerts go away. If you want to get back later and catch up, go to your control panel to see your quotes/mentions/tags. Just click on your name and go to your profile, you will see 3 new tabs.

-You can control your settings for notifications and other things in your Control Panel.

This is new to the Mods and Admins too and we're still working out the nuances, so bear with us. We may change things suddenly and if we discover any problems, maybe shut it off completely while we continue to evaluate it and any performance impacts.

As always, feedback is welcome in the Feedback & Questions forum.

Reef club events **PLEASE READ**

In the continuing effort to curb forum spam while at the same time supporting the local clubs the staff of Reef Central asks that advertising club events remain limited to the forum of the club holding the event. Additional advertising is provided in the announcement forum and in Reef Keeping magazine. Neighboring clubs who wish to support each other’s events can do so by having a club officer post the neighbors’ event in their forum. This will prevent conflict between club events and help reduce the possibility of abuse while allowing each club the privilege of advertising in the forums provided through the web site. We realize the importance of club events and the need to advertise them but at the same we all must respect the boundaries of our neighbors, as the events they are holding are just as important to them as yours is to you.

There's a lady I've known forever. She's taken ill as of late.
On top of that, she's being abused by those to whom she has given everything... Lies about her abound, and seem to come from all sides. Just breaks my heart. Maybe, if we join together, we can help her heal.
She's well over 230 years old, but way too young to die. Her name is 'America'... And I love her and I have always been proud of her.

Current Tank Info: 220 gal reef with 200+ gals of sump and refugium.
