i got some star polyps yesterday, and they have yet to open.
is this normal?

i have them placed high in the tank under the lights. should i move him lower to less direct lighting?
i feel like i should move him

it is very normal for them not to open for a couple days . i wouldn't worry about the PC lighting being two strong .

Mine did the same after I bought them, they didnt open up till 2 days later. Just remember try not to move them to much, because they might not come back out for a day or 2, well in my case that is..

worst thing you can do is keep messing with them . resist the urge.

I found some yesterday when I was rearranging the tank. The got lost at the bottom. I moved them to the top and they started to bloom! They do spread quickly too

Just let them chill...They will come out when they are ready.

Not to worry. If there were such things as indestructible corals, star polyps would fit in that category. Give them time.
