I was acclimating a pipe organ coral for a friend and out popped this crazy looking guy. When I first saw it the tentacles/antennae in the front section (I assume it is the front) were sucked in, but as it became less freaked out they came out. It seems to adhere and crawl along things much like a slug/nudi would. It is about 1 inch long and kind of conical in shape.

Anyone have any ideas what it could be and whether or not it is reef safe? I'm assuming it probably isn't and I have it stored in a plastic container at the waterline of the tank and I've placed the coral in QT. I don't want to kill this creature for no reason so any help would be great.

It's a sea cucumber, BTW.

Thanks for the quick ID everyone. Is it a cuke that will be safe in the main tank? If not I'll probably keep it in QT since it is pretty cool looking (to me at least). As long as it isn't a pest I'd love to keep it.

Cukes eat detritus and are quite useful. Amusing to watch too, as this kind first filters particles out of the water or sand then sticks the feeding tentacles one by one into its mouth.

I thought I read somewhere that cukes, though awesome filter feeders can poison a whole tank if stressed or if they die.

My tank is purely soft corals right now so I think I might just risk it. Think my emerald crab will leave it alone? Other than that I don't think anything else in my tank will bother it any.

Thanks for your help everyone and merry xmas (happy holidays) to you all :D
