I was thinking of upgrading my circulation in my 72gal. Right now I have 3 MaxiJet 1200's (295gph each) and the return pump (Mag 9.5 - maybe 400gph actual). I still have some dead spots and was thinking of adding a Nanostream 6025 (1189gph). This seems like a ton of flow...I need some more, but I feel like this may be overkill... opinions???

The 6025 is only 600gph--I have one in my 20g+mj1200.
In a 72g, I would get either a 6060 or 6100.

yes, youre right, it is about 600gph - my mistake. Would that be ok? I dont want to blow my corals away!

shud be alright as the flow is quite gentle.

Well, other than the fact that the plastic cracks when you look at it, and they tend to sieze up in the first couple months, theyre..you know...tunzes...so they have to be great.

Honestly, you'd be much better off with much more flow. IMO, the maxijets probably move as much water as the nanostreams. More water is moved by the nanostream itself, but the high velocity of the maxistream will almost educt water with it.

I'd mod one of the maxijets with an Octura 1435 prop, and go from there.

(That being said, I'd have about 5000gph of flow in a mixed reef that size...more in a SPS/LPS tank)

I would go with two 6045 if I was you. I have a 6025 in my 75 but use it in the back of the tank to take care of a dead spot. Two 6045s would give you the flow needed in your tank.

Ive had my 6025 for a month or so, no problems, it works great. Its really nice to be able to angle it in any direction. I'm going to get a 6045 as soon as they come out. You will be able to angle the 6045 in your tank w/o causing damages to the corals
