I got this deepwater about 6 weeks ago. It's been on the bottom of my QT tank the whole time with lots of flow and has been doing great. It's maybe 18 inches from the surface of the water right now. I'm going to move it to my main tank today. If I start to move it up slowly can deepwaters handle very bright light? Like 6 inches below the surface and maybe 10 inches from the light.. Can I expect color change from it if I move it up? This is my first deepwater.. Here's a pic of it. It is light green in person but for some reason my camera will not pic up the color of it.

No one keeps deepwaters? Anyone have any advice?

Hi,
I have that species ( not sure what it is, but is identical). I've had it for over a year, and am keeping it about 12 inches from surface, 18inches total from 3x 250wDE XM20K. I have had it slightly higher with no negative results. The coral does adapt quite well to higher light but will color shift. Mine developed a neon green base with purple/ blue on the growth tips. This one doesn't grow real fast for me, but is still one of my favorites. I am really into the deepwater stuff. (just wish i could find more...they don't seem to be around as much anymore...)

Hope that helps.

I also have a very similar piece with color charactaristics smilar to to SPStoner....mine is blue/green base with very deep blue/purple branches.
It was labeled as a "Deep Water Blue Acro" at my LFS.
I have mine placed at mid tank under 400W 10K's and mine grows like a weed. The fastest growing Acro in my tank.
So. I wouldnt be too overly concerned about too much light....

deepwater is just a name to make the piece sound more interesting. all acros as we know love light.
deepwater collected corals are no more than 20 feet in depth usually in the wild.

I bought a similar one (on the left). Turaki I believe. One of the only SPS I've lost since setting up my tank. Thought I'd try it again. The greens/turquoise/blue is really pretty.

Here is pic of my A. Turaki.
I know the pic sux, but it is the best I can do with what I have.
This is under 10k...when I try to take pics with my actinics on, everything looks too blue.
Anyways, you can see the growth, it has been amazing. I have had it for about 3 months. The frag was actually placed on its side. So the 5"-6" of growth you see is from the side branches. So if you look at the bottom branch aprox. 3/4" is the original size of the original frag so you can guage the growth on the upper branches you see now.
