View Full Version : Look what I got for Christmas!!!

For Christmas i got 40 pounds of sand, 6 turbo's, some snails and crabs, 2 maxijet powerheads, 1 heater, and just today i got a new Pencil Urchin. Man i am happy. Check out my tank and tell me wat u think. I am also getting more liverock soon for christmas too. well thanx for checking out my tank. Later

Urchins are too cool!!! I've heard that a few aren't really reef safe though, check into it if you want to get corals. I could be wrong though.

some urchins, like the diadema setosum (black long spined urchin) are prone to eating delicate inverts, as well as any other zooplankton they can rip from the rockwork/sandbed. They also graze upon algae, micro and macro as well as coralline. Some urchins, not sure bout the one you got though, are very succeptable to water quality. I lost my last D. Setosum due to poor water quality, thought the tank had finished cycling, but after introducing the urchin had a bad nitirite spike and the thing was dead before dawn. That and they can push the rockwork around pretty well, glue everything down, lol.
