This is my first salt water tank that has been running for 10 days now. I bought the whole set up from a guy who didn't have the time to take care of it anymore.

29 gallon (30"X12"18")
Coralife Power compact 130watts
30lbs of Live Rock (Tonga and Fiji)
40lbs of Live Sand
2 Rio Power Heads
Heater
Aquaclear Filter
4 Blue Leg Crabs
2 Snails
2 Blue/Yellow Damsels

what do you guys think about the placement of the rocks? There are 30 lbs of live rock and am thinking about getting some more to create a wall on the right side.

cheers

Looks good so far. Watch those rio powerheads, they tend to burn up after a while.

I actually like the Rio Power heads :-) They are quite and small, unlike the maxijet power heads. I bought one coupld days ago but I decided no to use it because it is big and noisey. By the way...I think that I am going to buy more live rock to buld a wall on the right side.

What do you guys think about my fish wish list
2 Clowns
1 Cardinal Banggai
1 Yellow Watchman Goby
1 Bicolor Blenny

Constructive criticism is welcome...come on guys...give me your opinion.

Cheers

The Damsels will be gone this weekend. I didn't choose to have Damsels in my tank, they came with the tank. A friend of mine wants them for his big reef tank.

The only fish I want in my tank are
2 Clown Fish
1 Cardinal Banggai
1 Yellow Watchman Goby
1 Bicolor Blenny (probably)

is this too many fish?

cheers

That amount of fish for a 29 should be fine.:)

should be cool now but u do have a good protein skimmer right?

Carrera76

No, I don't have a Protein Skimmer. I have talked to a few people and they all recommended to go without a skimmer. The fish will be introduced sowly and I will check water parameters to make sure it is ok to add more fish.

I have been thinking to get this small skimmer;
www.oceanaquatics.com/store/product/1467/Rio-Nano-Skimmer/

I heard that a skimmer removes a lot of good stuff that corals need to thrive. I know a lot of you will tell me that I am crazy....but people have been keeping SW fish for a long time and I believe that back then skimmers didn't exist and fish still did well.

Go without a skimmer!!!! That's crazy!!!! Ok maybe I'm overdoing it but a skimmer would be nice. I don't know to much about that particular skimmer but I know marinedepot.com has some nice ones.:)

yes the rock work is cool but you will see that over time you will move those rocks so many times I won't be funny try to get more rock and set it up the you like it and hopefully in 2 or 3 months you will still like it and you won't keep digging in there and moving rocks lots of luck with the set up. It looks great so far.

I bought some more rock yesterday and the aquascape is different now. It looked a bit empty before but it looks a lot nicer now. there are lots of caves and hiding places for the fish.

I will post bew pics later on.

Here is an update of my ta tank...I purchased a Bicolor Blenny and a Yellow Watchman Goby. They are sooooooo cute and both have great personalities. i also added more live rock and I think the aquascape is better now. There are plenty of caves and hiding places for the Fish.
Lots of pics.......

Thanks for the positive feedback....:D I think that later on I will go to my LFS to get a few crabs and snails as well as a couple of shrimp.

Im thinking of getting a Fire Shrimp, Skunk shrimp and maybe a Pistol shrimp for my Goby. What do you guys think? Would these guys get along well or would the kill each other?

What snails should I get? I heard that Nassarius Snails and Cerith are the best....I will try to get some as well as some more Blue Leg crab and Left Handed Crabs.

cheers

do u plan on having corals or is this fish only i would not put a pistol in because they very hard to match up with the goby but hermit crabs once the get to big for there shell will rip a snail out my friend has this happen quite often and its not to much fun but skunk shrimp are nice also as well and fire shrimp but yea if your not doing fish only think about some corals

wow birdy! Try using some punctuation in your posts. They are very hard to read. Looking good so far, your off to a nice start. Im in the midst of setting up a 29 but i'm drilling it for an overflow to another 29. Good luck!

Im taking on a 29 now and waiting for a drill bit. There is a person on ebay that sells diamond tipped bits for very cheap. While they won't last as long as the more expensive ones, they will so for the DIY'er. I believe the seller is lau****. I was going to do the dremel method but couldn't stand the thought of an oblong hole.
