Does anyone know if the sides/front/back of an Oceanic 58 gallon (36.5L x 18.5W x 21T) are tempered? Have one that I am using as a sump and need to drill the back to join it with another sump. I know most 55 gallon tanks are all tempered glass but what about the 58 gallon? Thanks for any help!

normally the bottom of tanks are tempered. As far as I know very few tanks are all tempered not even 55's

I had one (a 55) that definately was all tempered. I found out trying to move it in the garage by myself by dropping it....
I would check the All Glass/ Oceanic site to be sure, or better yet call their customer service line they are very helpful. I was under the impression my 58 is tempered, can't remember where I got the info though...

I have an Oceanic 58 and drilled the back with 5 holes without problem. I believe only the bottom is tempered.

You can use polarized lenses to tell.

I bought a used one this summer, cleaned it up, resiliconed it and drilled 3 holes in the back. I used a dremmel which blew apart. Dremmel uses some kind of rubber plastic linkage and I guess it could not take the strain of the thick glass.
