View Full Version : Ram Chemical's calc. chloride substitute for Dowflake?

Randy et al.,

I have been unlucky in finding deicer here in central Texas (imagine that), but a pool supply store has "Ram Chemical" 77-80% pure calcium chloride which is the same purity as Dowflake. Is Calcium Chlroide with that purity level fungible between brands or could the 20-23% "impurities" be harmful to my tank?

No, the 77% simply implies that it is calcium chloride dihydrate (23% being water), and says little to nothing about the suitability or purity of the sample.
