I picked up a 50# bag. Has anyone tried this particular brand? How would i be able to test this to make sure it's compatible with my tank?

Thanks!http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/braydenspoppa/Sand.jpg

i used that type of sand on my cichlid tank and in my mudskippers tank, worked really good. the only problem i had with it is in my mudskippers tank, since they made alot of contact with the bottom, they were stiring the sand up pretty bad and it had to resettle every time they swam or ate or even touched it. thats the only thing i didnt like.

place some in a bowl full of vinegar, if it fizzles then your pretty good to go. If it doesnt, then it is probably silicate based and will cause diatom blooms. Im curious to see too cause home depot doesnt carry the southdown/old castle sand anymore.

Silica sand DOES NOT cause algae blooms. Silica sand is inert, it does not dissolve, leach, disintegrate, explode, melt, combine, morph, or solidify in salt water. This is a Myth that needs to end right here and now.
