A little panda puffer joined my family today :-)

Anyone ever have one of these?

Acclimation and freshwater dip first, then pictures.

I've heard the panda is the dogface puffer with a different pattern. So the care should be the same, but i would like for someone to confirm that.

Arothron diadema - aka masked or panda puffer is from the Red Sea.

They are often shy and slower to acclimate to prepared foods than other arothron species.

Definitely recommend deworming the puffer while in QT.

Praziquantel is a good dewormer.

Praziquantel is a good dewormer.

Add it to the food for a couple of weeks while in QT right?

I never dewormed my porcupine puffer. You think I should put him back in QT and deworm him? How can I tell if he was worms? I never see him poop so never see stringy crap coming from his anus.

I made a mistake. Treatment of worms is done by administering the praziquantel directly into the water I believe.

You can add it to the water or feed. I prefer to feed the praziquantel. I add the dose to a feed and then repeat in a couple of week.

Really all fish should be dewormed as it has been reported that 70 - 80% of all fish imported have worms. They can coexist within a fish for extended periods before symptoms may arise.

puffer queen, do you think a mappa puffer would be ok with a clown trigger in a large tank?

How large of a tank are you thinking? Those puffers get big and are very messy.. (believe me).

it is being filled with ro/di water on top of base rock

but the question was, do you think a clown trigger would be ok with a mappa puffer?

No doubt would a mappa be ok with a clown trigger. The clown would dare not mess with a mappa.

sorry have not had time to snap pictures yet. been so busy trying to get him to eat something, keeping his tank siphoned out of all the stuff he ignores, etc etc.

puffer you were right, these guys are picky eaters! he has rejected just about every marine fish there is, cockle, clams, cyclopeeze, shrimp, octopus, and just about every frozen packaged food Ocean Nutrition sells.

So far is has eaten brine (which i HATE feeding), squid and krill. He actually rejected squid and krill the first time I fed it but ate it last night. So maybe he is getting used to my feeding.

I promise to take pics tonight!
