I have a 200W "submersible all-glass" heater and would like to know if anyone can recommend a great heater to me. My current heater cannot seem to keep a temperature and comes on and off at will, either too hot or too cold. This is really beginning to damage my corals and fish. Ideally, I want a heater that I can set to 79-80 degrees and feel comfortable that when the temp goes too high the heater will turn off, and when the temp goes too high low it will turn on. Can I expect this from any heater on the market?

Please let me know what is best for a 55g tank.

Thanks for the input powdertang. Does anyone else have any advice?

For some reason I cant find a jbo heater on marinedepot.com or even on google. Could it have a different name?

Via Aqua titanium, with its external temp sensor and thermostat has been very accurate for me. Get rid of the glass heaters with internal thermostats.

Stay away from via aqua I have had 3 rust to the point of blowing my gfci. They are not suppost to rust, but they do.
Tryed to contact the company with no responce.

Keep the heater and buy a controller. All of the heaters in the hobby use terrible thermostats. They will all fail sooner rather than later. I would ditch a glass heater though.. All of the controllers on the market are of a decent grade commercial quality and should last for years without any problem.

http://diyreef.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=68&products_id=37 pretty cheap insurance for your tank.

Via Aqua also makes a stainless version but the Titanium will not rust. Mine has been in my sump over 3 years now and looks brand new.

If you go titanium take a look at the Finnex brand:

I have two 200W running for about 3 months now and I've been really happy with them.
