That tank is one of the best nanos I have ever seen. Beautiful.

Can you give us some more information on it?

anguswu
01/04/2007, 09:35 AM
Here is the picture of my filter tank behind the main tank.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h117/an2675/filter2.jpg

And this picture shows how the two tanks get together. You can also see a skimmer and auto feeder, but I forget the skimmer specification. I have some zeolite and coralite in the filter.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h117/an2675/filter1.jpg

I have three pumps, one for filter, one for cooler (1/10p), and one for the current in main tank.

Hope the information may help.

I raise the tang for half years and grow up from 2cm to 6cm. I am planning to trade it for smaller one or some other mushroom.

Yesterday I did lots of work for my tank. Firstly, put a black background, move the hippo tang to my friend's 4 feet tank. Here's the pictures.

Move all the coral out of tank, and you can see the hippo tang in the basin. Friend was coming for the tang.

wow it's like you memorized the corals positions along with rock positioning. amazing. everytime i had to reposition things, i could never remember how they were for the life of me!

i was just looking at your livstock list and had a few Qs.

- how is it with 2 CBS in a small tank? no aggression towards each other + other tank mates?

- what kind of starfish is that? that's beautiful!

- you have a camel shrimp? i thought they were harmful to the corals?

anyway, great pics once again. thanks for sharing them with us. :)

anguswu
01/15/2007, 01:56 AM
Yes, I have 2 CBS and they are not aggresive to each other. The blue CBS is larger than the yellow CBS. I think my live rocks have lots holes when I stack them. That may help.

I don't know what kind of startfish it is, it called red starfish in the aquarium here.

There are two kinds of camel shrimp. One is black and white another it colored(purple and red). The black and white one won't harm to the corals. At least it did not harmful in my tank.

I love the way tanks with lots of rock look. How many pounds/kilograms of rock do you have in your tank?

Awesome tank. I really love the way it is layed out.

anguswu
01/15/2007, 02:40 AM
Actually I dont know how many weight for my rocks. But surely it is less than you look at them. There's lots holes inside and let the fishs and shrimps live in it.

After checking the old pictures, I found my red yuma grew double the diameter. The first picture blow was taken at 2006'08'06 and the 2nd picture was in 2007'01'15. Check the small rock the yuma stand, it can be clear the yuma's growth.

What are the dimensions on the tank?

anguswu
01/18/2007, 11:02 AM

01/18/2007, 12:30 PM
Newbish question here but I'll give it a go. Do your rics and mushrooms take over the tank? I've seen the nanos at the store coverd in mushrooms and now I'm scared to put one in my future tank. Love the tank by the way.

edwing206
01/18/2007, 05:54 PM
mostly shrooms will multiply fast, but rics don't multiply as fast from what i have seen. just as long as you keep them in check you shouldn't have a problem

NO3 10

I change 5G water every week. When I added livestock coral, I will check the rock by my eyes. If I see anything that is not good, I use cutter to scrape it. And then put in salt water(in a basin) to wash it. Check again and put into my main tank.

what do you feed you marble sea star? and does he climb over all you rocks and clean? oh and also does he knock down corals? thanks

anguswu
01/25/2007, 08:05 PM
I did not feed the marble sea star but I feel it grow a little bigger after it live in my tank 5 months. Mostly, it did not always climb over my corals but it climb my rock and glass. My coral with little rock all stick on big rocks, so no coral will be knock down.

Hello Anguswu,

Awesome tank, amazing colors... congratulations!!

I love LSP and rics as well. You have some quite gorgeous animals here! Love the Led light also!

Like Kix, i'd like to have an info about the neon orange big polyps you have on the left bottom side of your tank... Looks like Duncanopsammia, but i didn't know duncan. could be that orange!
It'll be grat if you could tell us the exact specie!
I think it's the same coal kix is asking about, even if in closeup, this new image you make makes me thing it's tubastrea. But tubastrea polyps are not that fat, are as separated from each other as I see on your first global image... so mysterious!

anguswu
02/01/2007, 08:30 AM
It is tubastra. Feed them with shrimp and cyclopeeze every two days. It will grow like mine.

I will wait my tank go more maturate and maybe join nTOTM again. Junkitu do quite well on his tank. His tank is really colorful and beautiful. He should win the nTOTM. 1. Can you explain more about your external filter, skimmer, refugium, etc ... I was a little unclear about that from the earlier pages in your post.

2. Can you explain what type of substrate on the bottom

3. What type of liverock

4. What brand of salt mix do you use

5. Do you use an auto-top off, if so what kind

Not only is the tank just fantastic...haven't seen colors & aquascape better anywhere...but so is your photography skills! Fantastic work on it all -

Actually, I don't suggest to use the external filter like mine. I use Eheim 1250 pump to suck the water from main tank and overflow from 1 inch pipe to main tank. I put ceramic ring, zeolite, phosphate and nitrate remover in the filter. The Marco 300P skimmer is in the filter also. I used a canister filter before, but I felt the canister filter is not good enough for my system. So I make the external filter.

I have only sand on the bottom of my main tank. Nothing else. About the liverock, I think I only have coralline liverock. I dunno any different kind of the rock, but I don't use the manmade one.

The salt I use is tropic marine salt, but every two weeks I will buy 5 gallons sea water from aquastore. I change 5 gallons water 2 or 3 times every 2 weeks. So I use both salt with water or sea water.

I don't what the meaning about "auto-top off". Can you explain?

Hope the information I provided may help.

Hello -
I think your answers have helped me understand more.
Auto top off =
a way to automatically add fresh water to your tank caused by evaporation... in order to maintain stable salinity

I was wondering what system you may use for this, or do you just add it manually and then test your water more often?

Thanks,

anguswu

I add water manually. I draw a line on the tank and add fresh water till the line.

ok, here are picture I feed rhodactis with cyclopeeze.

I feed rhodactis directly with cyclop-eeze. Mix the cyclop-eeze with little salt water from my tank. And then dip it on the rhodactis mouth.

Yes, the wrasse may grow big. Now it is only 3cm and slow swimmer. It really eat small inverts. I saw it eating the small seastar that only 5mm. I may catch it again when it grow big and move to a big tank.

I like the scooter blenny too. You willl see it swim at daytime. Keep knocking its head and searching all around in the tank.

At nighttime, it will hind its body in the sand and only the head is out of the sand.

The potters angel is smaller than the flame angel. When the potters angel came in the tank, the flame angel was biting it. At that time I have a hippo that bigger and active than the flame angel. So the flame angel not the boss and then the pollers stay safe. But now they live in peace and share their foods. I think I am lucky.

After 12 days, I check they are totally splitted.

After cutting the base rock. They still have some stress because I touched them.

Wow I thought I was doing something good with my tank. I am nothing when compared to this. Your tank is really awesome. I was comparing some pictures I took of my tank to yours since I run all T5 bulbs and I noticed that my look is more white and yours is more blue. I really think this is why all your coral have a better coloring. Your ricordias looks alot like mine when only my blue lights are on. I think the T5 in your lighting is over powering the halide and that is why your colors pop more with all your lights on. Looks really nice.

I am almost ashamed to post you my tank so you can compare what I am saying but here is my tank. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1062070

Love your tank..what kind of starfish do you have?
Does it bother your coral?

Hoping my tank will look this great in a year or so.

I have had choclate chip starfish and careful they will eat your mushrooms. i didn't notice my linka starfish eating any mushroom but they didn't survive too long. be careful they are very sensitive to temperature.

Can you post a pic of your lighting setup? I am very envious and jealous of your tank! Beautiful!

My light is not so special. It is HQI in the center and two T5 at both side. I am considering to change my light with two T5 and two VHO.

Now here's the update. I got a new shrimp that I don't the name it is.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h117/an2675/inverts/shrimp.jpg

The shrimp act as a cleaning shrimp and eating the parasite on the fish. The flame angel is enjoying the service and actually after I took the photo. The potters angel took turns.

A more clearing photo for the little yuma. Wish it grow like my red yuma.

The red yuma tentacle is getting big. This is the newest photo.

BTW you have the most amazing tank i have ever seen! I read this entire thread and i think that if you will post your entire tank info, as people at TOTM do then it will be very informative!
please do! ;) :D

anguswu

No, it is not camel shrimp. Camel body is shorter and the claw is shoter also.

Another thing about the tank info. Sorry, I am too lazy to do it. And that is one of the reason why I am not enter the ToTM lol. Someday I will try my best.

Camels also do not act as cleaners - and they will certainly eat your corals.

I would simply call that an awesome shrimp. Looks amazing! Kudos for an awesome tank.

At page 7: Main tank dimensions are 60cm*39cm*39cm.

I have 3 flow in my tank.
600L/hr for the chiller from the left buttom to the left top.
1200L/hr for the sump, from the left buttom to the right top and flow hit the right wall.
1200L/hr main flow in main tank, from the right buttom to the right top and direct hit the center of the water surface.

Great pics!

The most important thing for the flow in mushroom tank is not to direct flow to the mushroom. That's why all my flow toward the tank wall or water surface.

My shrimp red pattern is spot and the body is more crystalloid. The claw is longer.

I've said it before but I really do love your tank Angus. Absolutely beautiful...It is actually the inspiration for my tank. I want my 33 gallon to overflow with yumas and other ricordeas!

I don't mean to steal your thread but I just bought a yuma that I think you would like...check out my page for pictures of it and let me know what you think Anguswu!

To Eva,
Great looking. The ric. fl. are very beautiful and healthy, but take care of the yuma. It seems not so healthy.

Hello,

I too admire your beautiful tank.

I like the way you have placed several different feather dusters together. They look very nice. I believe I will try to do something like that in my new 30 gallon cube. I've just set it up. I'm waiting for the ammonia to dissipate.

The little tank I set up took 4 days to complete the cycle. This one is going to take longer I think.

You seem to have figured out the lighting well.

What does HQI stand for? Is it the "clip onto the side" kind of hallide? Do the lights extend beyond the top of your tank? How do they stay secured?

anguswu
04/06/2007, 12:47 AM

What's the company?

It seems like t5 only come 24 inches here..that's about 8 cm too long. or they have 4 t5 so they are too wide and too long...

Hey Angus, what do you think is the problem with the yuma? It normally spreads out bigger than in the pictures posted but recently it has been stressed. It has two feet attached to different parts of the rock...one attached to the main rock and the other attached to a small piece of rock that broke off from the main rock. I think it may be trying to split? Should I cut it in half myself?

anguswu
04/06/2007, 05:07 PM
Yes, it has been stressed. That's why I thought it may have problem. You know why it is stressed, then it should be fine. Personally I don't suggest to cut yuma. Yuma is more weak then ric. fl.

eva12
04/06/2007, 10:00 PM
Alright, thanks very much anguswu. I should just leave it alone? I feel bad that it has two feet...it looks painful almost from the way that he is stressed out.

birth is a pain lol, how true. thanks anguswu. we woke up this morning to find him dangling/hanging in the air about 3-4 inches off his rock! he was attached to this rock by only one very small stretched out foot. I am so confused as to what to do. Right now we have placed him back on his rock but put him on the sandbed for now.

By the way, that yellow feather duster is amazing!
