i was wondering if anyone had any experience with the AGA 40 gallon breeder, everything that i have read in their catalogs states that the 40 breeder does NOT have a tempered bottom. Has anyone else out there drilled their 40 breeder? Thanks, Chad

Would you rather take a members word for it or call AGA directly and ask them? :)

The back isn't, I know that for sure. I drilled 6 holes in the back of mine. Never even checked the bottom though.

i called them (aga) directly, they said that as long as i didnt buy it from walmart and that it didnt have the green tempered sticker, i was ok. Ill let you know tomorrow if that is infact the 100.00 truth!

Should be fine.

I've got a 40 breeder, but I just drilled the back anyway.

Why not physically check it using a couple polarized lenses??? Easy and fool proof!!!

Works best for me outside in the sunlight where I can use the sky as a uniform background. 1 lens* on each side of the glass to be tested. Rotate the lenses until they block most of the light passing through them and move them across the glass in unison. If the glass is tempered you'll see light and dark patterns in the glass if it's not there will be no paterns.

The SIDE windows of your car (NOT THE WINDSHIELD) are tempered check it there first so you know what to look for. The pattern in a tempered tank isn't usually as pronounced as the car window but still easily visible.

* I'm using the term lens interchangably for the term filter, such as a camera filter. I personally use a 62mm camera filter and my Maui Jim (polarized) sunglasses.

Yeah well tempered glass has a little bit of an adverse reaction to cutting!!!

Tim:cool:

BTW If you do use sunglasses the tint makes it a little more difficult than if you use a couple camera filters... shouldn't be a problem in sunlight.
