View Full Version : Rubbermaid Wastebasket Overflow??

Anyone ever try to make an internal overflow/surface skimmer using a Rubbermaid wastebasket?

I believe they are made of LDPE(4). I think that's reef safe plastic...need to double check that.

Was thinking about trying this. Figured I would just cut it and silicone it to the glass. Perhaps I would leave a little lip around the edge of the wastebasket for better contact with the glass (it is quite thin).

However, the plastic seems quite thin, flexible and I am not sure if silicone will even stick to it.

Cheers,

Why not just use a piece of large PVC pipe cut in half lengthwise? You can usually pick up scrap pieces from construction sites for free as they usually just toss it in the dumpster.

I have been looking for PVC or ABS (for potable water) but have not found anything that wasn't 12 feet long.

I am keeping an eye out though, but wanted some feedback on the black LDPE(4) containers. I also think it might look nicer than PVC.
