Question on calcium reactors.

Greetings

I am just starting my new reef build and I have two Ocean clear canister filters from eons ago. Can these be used to make a homemade calcium reactor. One has a spray bar and the other one does not. I could put a gate valve on the back side for flow control????? I'm Thinking since I have them might as well put them to good use. Any help greatly appreciated.

A reactor is a touchy peice of equiptment by itself let alone a makeshift one, one day of too much co2 and you could wipe out your tank, why chance it.
