View Full Version : Clear lid?

I have a new lid on my tank that i got from the lfs. I am not sure if it is Acrylic or Polycarbonate. I have herd that some plastics are UV resistant. I notice that when i remove or replace the lid that my clams react. Could this lid be blocking vital light in my tank?

I wouldnt use the lid. Your clam is retracting just because the light shifts and more or less scares the clam when you lift it.

And yeas it is blocking a little light but whether or not it is "vital light" depends on the light intensity and the tank size.

Without the lid the water would be open to the room. Could dust and other air-born stuff become a problem. As for light intensity and tank size its a 24 gal nano cube w/ a k2viper 150watt mh w/14k

I would be more concerned about fish jumping out, rather than dust getting in. Your better off with no lid. It will help keep the temp down. Dust shouldnt bother the tank, but be sure not too spray anything around the tank.
