What do you think is the best, high quality salt for reef tanks?

And second, where do you get it ?????

Yeah, best bang for the buck so far is Reef Crystals... I order mine through Foster and Smith... If you just want to spend money, and it makes you feel better, go with Tropic Marin... ;) High quality stuff...

I started out with just IO, then moved to Reef Crystals. I swear that my small toadstool tripled in size within the first two weeks. Kinda scary...it grew very little in IO, but it loves the Reef Crystals. I bought some Seachem Marine Salt, but I'm not too impressed with it. Everything seems to just be the same, no growth lately.

I heard Red Sea was rated the best by a study done. Eric Borneman says he mostly uses that or Reef Crystals.

I use IO. Works fine for me. I get it at Petsmart.

This question gets asked at least once a week...and of course I read them all :)

My conclusion is there is no 'best salt'.

Ditto that. I've used IO, Reef Crystals, Oceanic and now Seachem's Reef Salt. I had a problem in my tanks with low mag when using Reef Crystals, but it may not have been the salt's fault. I like the Seachem product a lot.

In Eric's study, did he test Red Sea Salt or Red Sea Coral Pro Salt?

IMO for the money Reef Crystals can't be beat. $31.99 on sale at Dr Fosters&Smith right now.

Its too bad that Petsmart doesn't carry the 160 gallon pail of Reef Cyrstals, as they will match the price on the IO 160 pail if you print out the Dr. Foster/Smith page with the price of $29.

Try a few and see what your tank likes the most.

RC is great for the price, but THE salt to use is Bio-Sea marinemix.
