when you place a mushroom in the tank how do you do it? I just placed one in my tank and look up and it is on the sandbed . I repeated this three times then placed it in a crevice in the rock. how do I keep this thing in one spot ?

You can try using a toothpick or a rubber band to hold it onto a small piece of liverock, and then place the live rock when the coral attaches.

I usually put shrooms in a strawberry basket w/ LR rubble until it attaches

I put them in a little cup with rubble on the bottom - they need to be touching something long enough to attach and the cup is shelter from current. They'll attach within 1-3 days for me. The other way is to use something like wedding veil material to gently strap them to a rock. You can glue the rock to a bigger rock later.

OH so that is the trick. Well now I have learned something. If i have no way of doing this in the tank will it be ok in a jar or something? Guy at lfs gave it to me , first one .

It pretty much needs to be in the tank or fuge or something to sustain it.

If the shroom has any sand attached to it's foot then you can superglue it to a piece of rubble rock. Then you can put the shroom anywhere you'd like. :) I use Loctite Super Glue Gel, works great.
