I saw an article on the net but there was no pictures or explanation as to how to connact an Aqua C EV 180 with a Becket 1408 foam head. Any one know how?. The article stated that it creates twices as much foam and a darker green skimmate.

This is the article:

Aqua C EV 180 with a Becket 1408 foam head
Anthony I am sending the pictures of the Aqua c EV180 protein skimmer with before and after with the Beckett 1408 foam head. It takes just 10 min to change it over, and it will get twice the dark skimmate per day in the cup. and much better control. The pump that was used for the Aqua C was not change to do this . Your help to polish the article would make it much better. RGibson
<thanks kindly, Ralph. All in good time. But thanks for contributing. We are tied up in the final edit of the book now at any rate... quite busy from the next month. Looking forward to your piece though! Kind regards, Anthony>

I once talked to a dude who put a beckett on his EV240. I asked him to PM me with the details but he never got back to me.

I am VERY interested in finding out how (EXACTLY) this is done as well.

So a bump for you my friend. :D

I wonder if it is as simple of putting it in where the injector goes and closing the air intake on the skimmer and using the beckett air valvu instead.

you'd just have to reduce the 1" beckett to the 3/4" thread (I think) of the Aquac injector.

Now this is one interesting thread...I'd like to see answer too.

From what I gather, the 1408 is 1". Can anyone verfiy this?

I found this link this is what it looks like. I found it for about $6.00 on another site.

I think in the pic I posted earlier, it uses that exact injector but it's in a housing to allow for air adjustment.

I think.

C'mon someone has to know how to do this.

No one knows how too hook this up? I guess this does not work.

are you trying yo make the skimmer more effective? try running ozone, my EV 400 was pulling out dark green skimmate before I added ozone, now its DARK BLACK like coffee... and smells horrid.

I run ozone but now the level in the tank is good . It does not turn on that often.

i think the injector on the aqua c is threaded 3/4, so all you would need is a bushing to go from 3/4 to 1" to make it work.
also, you would still use the air valve on the skimmer to control the amount pulled in at the "second injector", as well as the one controlling the beckett.
this mod should work pretty damn well, especially with a good pressure pump, would like to see some pics!!

You get a beckett holder from MRC and ask Andy to put a 3/4 male fitting on it and screw it on the top of the box of the aquac .Take out the air valve and put a plug in its place and you are good to go.I ran one like this for many years.

hi rgibson!
im just wondering what reason you had for closing off the air valve on the skimmer body, i wouldnt think it would pull in more air, but i've never done this mod so i wouldnt know. but i like the idea of a second injector, kind of like with the elos skimmers.

The air valve is not needed the beckett holder has air valve built in it you can see one at MRC sponsors page.

RGibson,
When you had this skimmer was it a better skimmer with the Beckett MOD.

I sold that skimmer before beckett mod came out.

koraltek- you wouldn't be adding a second injector, you'd be replacing the origional one with a beckett.

A friend of mine said that I could probably just step down a 1" beckett holder to a 3/4" threaded male fitting and use that.

Makes me wonder if you would be hampering the effectivness of the beckett by reducing it.

well, i was thinking that even if you take out the aqua c injector, the water still goes through the section where it hits the water surface and sucks in more air(directly underneath the injector), so i figured it would pull in even more air there, even though it would have a beckett on it.
it's official, we need some pics!!

What type of pump do you guys think would be acceptable to pull this off?

I'm not replacing my Mag 18 just to try somthing new out. I don't know that a mag 18 would be able to put up the required pressure though.

I guess I need to try it and see.

The mag 18 would work fine.

I'm probably going to pick up the injector this weekend (provided the price is right) and I'll give it a try. I'll be sure to post pics of the whole thing.

My main concern is not fitting the beckett onto the skimmer, rather, will my pump have enough juice to make it worthwhile.

Yes it will work. As long as you don't reduce down to anything less than 3/4" after the beckett it is fine. The key to making a beckett work is low restricition. If you reduce down to 1/2" it will just squirt water from the air inlet instead of suck air. As far as the EV 180 handling the beckett it should be an improvement over stock. Probably not mind blowing but a bit better.
