Lace rock and live rock

My lfs has some nice shapes of lace rock in stock now. I was thinking of adding 1/3 to 1/2 lace rock to live rock in my new 105 gal to save $, plus some nice large shapes. About how long will it take for some good growth to transfer to the lace rock?

The lace rock should take no more then 6 months to start getting coraline...it will go thru some weird colored algea stages though....make sure lots of water flow....

I've heard it called lace rock in a few forums, and that is what the lfs calls it. I believe it's a generic name for a non-living rock ( not sure of the origin) but it looks very similar to live rock without any growth and is dry on the shelf. Not sure of any better way to describe it?

That's the stuff. I live in Idaho so he may have a local source. The stuff looks really good with lots of caves, ledges, and the like. Plus it's about a $1.49 a pound.

Lace Rock is just a regular type of earth Stone, Local Fish Stores sometimes cure" it in Salt Water, to turn it into LR, it can be used in SW tanks, and makes a good and inexpensive Base Rock.

I've Never Used it in SW, but have it in my Cichlid Tanks, it looks similar to Live Rock.
