I was wondering how you guys controller the flow from the overflows in a re-circulating skimmer?

Obviously ball valves or gate valves are used. But beyond that how do you guage the GPH going through it?

There's not great way to gauge. One way is just to ballpark it by eye. If you own a few smaller power heads and have an idea of how fast they pump, you maybe able to guess relatively. Another way is to just measure how long it takes to fill up a 1 gallon container and extrapolate from there. That's what I plan on doing.

using the drain line from your skimmer fill a container with a known size , say an empty gallon milk container if it fills that container in 4 seconds. than it would fill that container 15 times in a minute. That would mean it would fill 900 times an hour. 900gph. If you are using much slower flow than use a smaller container. an empty liter bottle for example. Its not exact but its very close.

Fishbulb your kidding about your occupation ?:)
