Hey everybody

here is my soon to be new prop tank,

this is the front

and the back:

this was the first tank that i've drilled

i will drill holes in the pvc in the tank and will place two shelves from white egg crate on it, so there will be good flow all over the place.

this is 30 gallon tank, and the lighting that i have for that tank are
380 watts.
130 pc
and 250watt DE ME 10,000k

i have just one question, what kind of substrate should i use?
would it be good to use deep sand bad to help filteration? this tank will be connected to my display tank which is 135 gallons.

Thanks,
Motti

nice job on drilling, did you use a hole saw or dremel bit?
I want to do something similar to my 30 but dont want to spend the money to replace it if it cracks.

Where is it being plumbed to? If its to an existing setup with a sand bed I wouldnt see the need for a sandbed in the frag tank. Keep the flow up...

ya i am going to place another 20h tank underneath it.

ya i got those diamond drilling bits. took me about 10-14 minutes for a whole. i also practciced dirlling on a piece of scrap glass i had laying around,

to be honest the first time the glass cracked.
as long you go slow, and low pressure and keep the drill cold i beleve you should be fine

So to keep the drill cold, a water hose?

i just lay the tank on the side, and i first drilled into a piece of achrlic i had laying around cuz the bit kept on slipping when i first tried to cut the glass, so i made the template and i held it down while i made the the hole in it.

i just pured some water on it, and made sure the drill wasn't getting hot.

anyone have any idea what type of substrate i should put in there?
sand or nothing? or something else?

if your looping it into your display tank i would say no substrate. my 5 cents.

and i will have a 20g fuge underneath it what would be a good amount of sand to throw in there?

What do you have in the main setup? If you already have a fuge and sump, you would not need any sand or even live rock other then what you will use for frags. You said it yourself, you are connecting into the main system, you will only be adding an additional bio load, which is not a lot considering it's a frag tank.

my main setup is 135 gallon display tank and 15 gallon sump/fuge

the plan is to add the 29 gallon frag tank, and an 20 gallon refugium tank, and expend the sump to 38 rubbermaid tub and 15 gallon tank.

i thought that ls have filtering bacteria in it. that's why i thought it would be a good idea to have it in the fuge, and the frag tank.

beside that i have in my tank 4 chromis, 1 yellow tail damsel, 2 maroon clowns, yellow tang, and blue hippo tang... and some brittle stars, snails hermit crabs....

I'd put a little bit of sand (maybe 1") and like 5-10 lbs rock in there along with a small CUC. This will help filtration for the whole system.

ya that's what i ended up doing.

i just finish plumbing the whole system, the pvc pipes in the prop tank works just great, the flow is amazing in there.
