Hi, im currently in the process of setting up my new 210 gallon reef ready aquarium.I currently have 350 lbs of live rock curing in the tank now.my return pump is a mag 38 (3800 gph) which seems to create a lot of water movement.I also have 4 maxijet 1200 powerheads (295gph) attached to a wavemaker. The guy at the pet store told me that was all i would need but after speaking to a few people theyve told me i need stronger power heads. What are your thoughts on the subject and are there any particular powerheads that you would reccommend.

Thanks,Jim

Well I have 2 MJ1200s attached to a wavemaker on my 33g, plus a third one running my skimmer, plus an AquaClear 200. So yes, you need bigger PHs. But size is dependant on what you want to keep. Your profile says reef...so you'd need lots of turnover. Think at LEAST 15-20x per hour.

30-50x an hour if you want SPS. Maybe check out the mods for your maxijets, they are fairly cheap if you are a DIY type. 2200 gph modded, Mod 2 of em out and leave the other 2 on the wavemaker.

I would have a look at moding the Maxi Jets, it's really easy to do! www.mjmods.com
