Awesome bluespotted! A little bit harder to keep then the yellowhead but you shouldn't come across many problems.

What are you feeding him?

Very nice, I love Bluespot Jawfish. I wish the regulations would be lifted so they wouldn't cost so much.

he was only $95 and is about 3 inches and i am feeding him mysis and NLS thera-a pellets. he seems very happy as he was already building after about 5 minutes in the tank.

I had a blue spot for a while until he decided to carpet surf. He made it through eggcrate cover!!

Wish you luck on yours.. They have so much character.

i thought they were a cooler water species? as in reef temps are too high for them and that they dont last long in aquaria

I don't mean to steal the thread, but has anyone kept a jawfish without a DSB. My sand bed is only around 1 inch deep, and I really want one.

I hope I don't rain on your parade, but there is a thread on here somewhere that talks about the many people, including myself, that have had difficulty in keeping these awsome fish. I tried this fish a few years ago in college, as well as a few months ago. They come down with the dreaded blue spotted jawfish disease that I believe is a bacterial infection due to high reef temps. verus the natural temps around 70. I truly hope you prove me wrong. This fish has become my nemesis. I can't keep one. Good Luck.

BTW,
If the BSJ doesn't work, you CAN keep two pearly jaws in a 29 gallon. They are not very aggressive towards each other as I have seen. They will, if male and female, share a burrow. Really cool.

Also Abraham1907,
NO WAY YOU COULD KEEP A JAWFISH IN A BB TANK.

A BB TANK... If you mean bear bottom by BB, I said I have 1 inch (maybe 1.5") of sand.

Sorry. Misread.
Thought you said BB. But a shallow bed IMO is not enough. It's like asking you to build a house with 3' ceilings. Would you be comfortable?

They definately need a dsb!

I've kept both pearly's and BDJ's they definately require atleast 3" of sand if not more. Mine always built some pretty intricate tunnels. Make sure your rocks are on the glass with the sand going around it. Rocks on top of a sand bed will topple and kill a jawfish when they burrow under it.

How closely related is the jawfish to the sleeper goby? It looks almost the same as my orange diamond sleeper goby.

Sorry to hear that. I wish these fish were possible to keep in a reef aquarium. Has anyone kept one successfully? My longest was 2 months.

My two pearly's and the YWG all lived together in the same tunnel system. They're were 3 exits to the tunnel, one was 2 ft away from the other two you see there. They can get halfway over to the other side of the tank underground.. Really cool...
