Hey all,

The other day I noticed my Toadstool had a hole in it. Nothing appears to be wrong with it. It has great PE and opens and closes like it usually does, but there is a hole in it. What would cause this and will it get worse or just go away?

Thanks

Just wondering... did it drop a baby?

If it did, I don't know where it went. No babies in sight.

yeah a lot of crap gathers in the center of my toadstool. wouldnt be surprised if that little area started to decay

It gets good flow from two directions so I doubt that is it. But say it is that, will it heal it's self?

Mine do this all the time. It is just splitting and it will be fine. I had one now i have six well 5 soon to be six since one is in the process of splitting.

I would use a turkey baster and try to blow on the hole.

Ive had that happen before and it recovered and it is usually from debri settling.

Your pictures don't show it opened up fully though. You said the polyps were opening fine.

Yeah the polyps are opening fine. When the polyps are fully extended you can't see the hole, that's why I didn't post a pic with the polyps extened

Superfirefly, I hope you are right about it splitting.

You will be fine but it will take some time. Mine usually takes a month or more to fully spilt.

I think Superfirefly is right, the hole in mine is changing shape.

Mine would change from a hole in the center to the top of the toadstool looking like a horse shoe then the splitting would slowly start working its way down the stem then the horse shoe would slowly pull itself into two parts. I wish I had taken pictures to document this.

Keep an eye on it. You want to make sure that the area does not turn black. Look for parasites (snail, nudi, worm) at the base especially at night.
