I don’t' understand why every all in one tank has the same problems. When will they listen to the basic things that every person does
Upgrade Pump
Upgrade to a Hydorflow or equivilent
Take out BIOBALLS or filter media
Put in small light for refugium in the back
It seems that every single Nano tank is built basically the same, and every person who gets on does the same basic things to fix them.
Hopefully eventually they will go hey we can sell a version for a little more and make people who are not DIYers happy.

my thought is because that would probably raise the price, meaning fewer people will buy them???

But if the price went up less then the cost to do all the upgrades who cares.

the new tank (nanowave?) from aquamedic has a built in fuge light and is very reasonable in price.

tprize -- It would be interesting to know what the actual percentage of cube owners is who do these upgrades versus those who don't. It sure seems like everyone on these boards does the upgrades you mentioned, I know I did. Maybe there is a huge population of people out there who buy them and love them just the way they are...
Ok, I wrote that last sentence thinking it would make sense and hoping I would believe it, but I don't buy that either. Who knows though... :D
That being said, I have heard good things about the upcoming JBJ cube. Don't recall any mention of a fuge light, but it sounded like a pretty big step up from previous models.

That's good. As far as the nanowave, no 3 independent cords if I remember correctly, another big flaw.

because probably 80 or 90% turn into freshwater where the tanks work just fine. There is much more money to be had on the freshwater side of the hobby for manufacturers and retailers.

Yes but nano customs shoots the price way way up. I just think they should make a Saltwater version and a freshwater version. Most already make a normal and a Deluxe version anyway.

Yeah but then you have the many variations of saltwater-
Fish Only (Bioballs come in handy)
Mantis tank (Don't need a ton of lighting)
SPS dominated (Need a ton of flow and lighting)
Softie/LPS dominated (Basically what you get now)
Each scenario needs specific things the others might not need.
Just my opinion

Exactly. I was out of the hobby for 3 years. I walked into a LFS just to kill time. Saw the jbj cube and thought. Hell for only a few hundred bucks I can get a small set up, a few corals, and a fish. And I did it spur of the moment.
I'm pretty sure if I walked in and saw the new jbj w/ mh for $500 I would've just kept looking.

I never said Mh I'm saying basic things like refugium instead of bio balls, so we all don't have to rip our hoods apart to put on in. And a better pump.
