Couple months ago I get this picture from some thread that I can't find anymore (apologize the owner to use its picture).

Anyway, I always took care to let my zoanthids far from all sps, since I've heard that they will battle.

But on photo both seems very happy... Can I let them together or not ? Depends on species ? I believe it will stops sps basis to grow, what is not necessarily bad if you want to control its size.
Comments pls...

I would keep them away. I have a mixed reef tank and some zoanthids have totally taken oven a few sps corals. They will begin to climb on the sps which kills it.

I have had the opposite problem.

The encrusting base of one of my acros is pushing my zoas right off of a rock. They both seem to be happy, but the acro is definently winning the battle for prime real estate.

I'm sure a lot depends on how aggressive an SPS species it is and how aggressive the zoas are.

i have seen both personally, but more often, it appears the encrusting abses of my montis and acros always win over the zoanthid growth.

matter of fact, i have some fire & ice zoos being squeezed out by my monti's encrusting base and a capricornis colony.

Thank you guys. Can you say which species (sps and zoas) each one have? Maybe we can figure out which acros can be tried to live with zoas and which must be kept away. There is no doubt it is a beautiful mix.

Maintaining an environment that Acropora favor will help Acros outcompete Zooanthids.

Yeah, zoas win in mine too. So I just frag them whenever I think they're getting too close.

Gary, I believe you mention an important point. Environment can help to balance the battle.

Newsc, Tks! How old is this pic ? How is acro development since then ?
