.... to mix to an almost clear (kinda translucent) consistency? I thought it would be more thick I guess. Is this correct?

Yes, they are mostly clear and easy to dissolve, unless you mix MAG flake and Epsom salt, in what case there is a little calcium sulfate precipitate. The alk part is harder to dissolve, and is what limits the concentrations of all the parts.
