I love mine. Peaceful. Curious. Swims up in the flow above my reef.A jumper so you will need to cover your tank with something. No pics right now.

Hi,

I have a thread exclusively on the genus Paracheilinus and you may find some info as well as several pics.

See "Let Them Flash !", and thank you.

I have that one among many other fairy and flasher wrasses, all of whom are jumpers. Highly recommended, colorful and peaceful.

I have four , maybe only three now. I have had them jump out 5 times in the last 7 days, 2x with tank uncovered while I was messing with it and 3x with eggcrate on ( didn't slow him down one bit) One has been MIA since I got home this afternoon. A thorough search turned up noyhing so maybe he's hiding in the rocks. Tey have been in the tank for 6 weeks now without any problems and started jumping in the last week. There are no bullies w/them, they just get a little trigger happy around feeding time.
Can anyone suggest a good replacement for the eggcrate?

i have an acrylic tank. its 100% sealed on top. i am getting class cut this week to replace the old acrylic covers cause they are turning yellow and blocking light. i would go to a glass shop and get 1/8" glass cut to measure .. its not much cash to do it. you can try plexi glass but it might warp.
there is also the option of making a screen for the top. using the same supplies as a window or door, you can buy the frames cut to your needs. just make sure you use plastic screen not metal

Heat is a big issue for me so sealing the top is out. I dont know about the screen, concerns here are, loss of light (I'm alredy ungerlit and am considering upgrade) and heat, ( halides are only about 4" above the rim of the tank. Noy sure if fiberglass screen would melt or not.

If these guy's keep jumping though the eggcrate I'll remove that cause all it is doing is reducing my light and not keeping the fish in.

I don't know if a 6-line will accept a new wrasse. 6-lines are very agressive. Perhaps you mean that you had a 6-line and don't anymore - in which case, then sorry.

Other than jumping, I can think of no downside on a carpenters wrasse.

I agree. Difficult to add a wrasse after a 6 line. They are VERY agressive.

Lovely Fish you have there John, but it's not a carpenter wrasse, yours is Paracheilinus mccoskeri a.k.a. McCosker's Flasher Wrasse

great pics . thanx for the input. yea i have a 6 line thats about an inch atm. i know they can be meanies but for some reason it never crossed my mind that he might be a problem. he gets bullied right now by 3 green chromis, i am trying to get the chromis out and was going to replace them with 3 or 4 flashers.. thanx for setting me straight
