No worries. I have had a gbta for quite some time now and he does this from time to time to expell waste. Sometimes my clowns even pick at his insides. Fun to watch.

well i made a BIG mistake................... i didnt want him to die in my tank and kill EVERYTHING so i put him in my QT but it has had copper in it.. and i dont know if it does still... i really hope this doesnt kill it....i mean it is only a small QT and has had no more that 1 tsp of ich medication in it over the past few weeks...

I hate to say it but that might have put the nail in the coffin. Get some fresh carbon running on your QT tank ASAP and don't take the anemone out now until you know he's healthy.

OR

Yank him from the QT and slap him back into the main tank and risk the anemone dying and fouling your tank....

Shame that none of us know what we were talking about isn't it.

You deserve the anxiety and pain you feel, the nem dosen't. Why do you ask for advice then ignore all of it. Shame on you!!

ughhhh! this is really getting annoying...... FOR THE LAST TIME I TOOK EVERYONES ADVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I APPRECIATED IT VERY MUch! I GAVE IT TO MY FRIEND WITH A 75 GALLON TANK! he had it set up and running for OVER a year and he brought it back to me today and thought it was dead and he didnt want it to wipe out his tank............... so i put it in my QT and i wanted to see if it was dead or dying or maybe that was normal..........

Hmmmm i have to agree with you on this one zoomfish1.
And i just read a tread from a couple days ago with you oxkisses12ox stating that this nem was doing great in your tank?
So now i am a little confused.

Yes that nem is probably dead or close to it. And you just topped it all off with putting it in a tank that had copper in it. Even if it was just at some point. Do some research and you will find it is incredibly hard if not immpossible to remove copper from a tank as it is in the seals of the tank and then leach out into the water.

But you know its to little to late for this again.

dude just toss it the copper killed it better luck next time

And toss the rock too. It's not worth the risk of the rock having absorbed any copper then placing it back in the main system.

well... i didnt say my anemone was doing great in my tank, in any other thread because its not in my tank and wasnt... MY PLATE CORAL WAS DOING GREAT IN MY TANK AND STILL IS!!!! THAT IS WHAT MY THREAD WAS ON!!!!!!!

We'll here is the original thread and the last post is you saying everything was going great.
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=8989857#post8989857

But in all honesty that is beside the point now. Now you have a dying nem that has been subjected to copper. You need to take it out. Are the clowns still in quarintine as they should be for 4-6 weeks as the ick lives in the main tank for that long. If you put them back in than they are going to get it again.

yes, everything is going great since i gave the anemone to my friend........... i didnt have it in my tank

I've been following your posts lately because I am obsessed w/seahorses and pipe fish and I saw one where you were asking if you could put a pipe in your tank and you posted this only four days before you posted the pictures of your dieing anemone. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=9007948#post9007948

Anyway hun, I mean this deep down. I love to see the teens getting involved with this hobby (I would love to see my children spend thier money and time on this rather then some of the nasty stuff kids can get into) and I really hope you stick with it and do awsome with it, who knows you could have a profession with it. My advise to you is to chalk this up to a big mistake, admit it to yourself and learn from it. Rather than spending all your money on livestock that will not live in your system set it aside and save for a larger system. In the meantime while learning how to keep your animals you have now healthy and learning water chemistry you can decide what way you want to go. It seems right now you want to just dive right into everything (and don't we all) but you just can't cram anemones and clownfish, potters angels, pipefish and coral into a 14 gallon tank just because you have natural sea water in there.

Like I said before, I hope I see you around hear for years to come. But if you keep up this pace you are going to burn yourself out with failure and marine animals will die as the price.

i put bubble tip anemone in there because i was planning on putting it back in my tank...... would everyone please get off of my back with the whole anemone thing and stop trying to prove me as a liar..... i didnt have the anemone in my tank end of story..... and i dont have to explain myself any more than that........ anyways, i really appreciate the advice and i did my research on pipefish and found they are very hard to feed and i am no longer concidering one.... i am no being ignorant on this and i am learning... now i realize not to post a thread because everyone is just rude

hansonfam
01/22/2007, 06:03 PM
Okay you know what we are not being rude. Put yourself for one second in our shoes. Better yet think of yourself in a year with some experience under your belt and someone comes to you with a question.
Now with this question you have enough experience with it that you give your opinion. Then 10,15,20 people give pretty much the same advice.

Then this person " disregards" everything that was offered and decides to go there own way.

Getting my drift here. Now whether or not the nem was in your tank when it took a turn for the worst is irrelevant now. That part is done. What everyone is upset about is that from the very begginning when you got it we told you to take it back. The whole idea of moving it from one tank to another did not help the dying situation at all.

We are not trying to be rude we are just frustrated(we'll i am anyways:)

And yes i hope you have a beautifull tank and will enjoy this hobby for a long time to come. But do it slowly in strides. This is not a quick hobby. Everything in time.

And please ask questions. That is what is great about this board. But when you ask a question be prepared to take some of the advice to heart. But on that same note if you choose to do whatever it is that you are going to do. Be prepared to deal with the reaction from people that gave the good advice in the first place.

Soooo now that i feel all better please accept my apology if i was undully harsh:)

its fine... i am just frustrated with everyone giving me attitude.... thank you for appologizing. i didnt give the anemone back to my LFS because in key west we have 2 pet stores and if you buy something, you cant take it back for store credit... neither store does it so i had to give the anemone to my friend... i didnt do my research before i got the anemone and i made a mistake

No need to get all judgemental on the guy. Come on guys. What we are probably trying to tell you is that if you do the research, and listen to the advice of your hobbyists around you; you will probably save yourself tons of cash spent on the hobby and have a chance to give your livestock a good home. These losses are inevitable for newbies, especially when you are dealing with sensitive subjects such as marine livestock. Good luck on the next purchase you make and hope it does well.

Yeah. Do your research ahead of time. This is my first tank, let alone a reef tank, and I've asked questions and researched about things months, even years, in advance. Just take your time and make wise decisions using the knowledge you know. Also, NEVER EVER EVER make assumptions. These people on RC very friendly and knowledgeable, so feel free to ask questions.

Page 2 man, it's not the time to pull out the Ohhhhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhhh! yet!

Like for me, I recently acquired a GBTA and decided to reaquascape to accomodate its presence. The reaquascaping procedure resulted in a loss of my skunk cleaner and a diamond goby I had ever since I started this hobby. I still make stupid mistakes but we learn to move along. :)

..... yeah losing fish sucks.... but i dont think all people on RC are as friendly as you think!!! lol ... most are :) but yeah i definatly didnt realize how important it is to do your research before buying things from the pet store just because their cute.. that advice RC gave me has saved me undoubtedly hundreds of dollars!

just dont get discouraged. losing fish, unfortunate as it is, comes with the territory. RC is one of, if not the best source for salt water aquarium info, and for the most part everyone is willing to help you.

good luck to you.

this is where the addiction begins

Hey, just picked back up on this thread, and you probably don't want to hear this, but I also apologize for the judgemetnal attitude I displayed in the other threads.

Just realize that we are as passionate about the hobby as you are and sometimes it ends up on these threads. I understand your intentions were not to have livestock die, nobody wants that. We do get frustrated and I honestly think it accumulates on a thread from time to time. Again, sorry for the hostile words and bad attitude. Don't let me be the one that makes you think twice about posting other questions.

Not sure if you still have your BTA but you should have just left it in your tank it's totally normal BTA's to deflate when expelling wast, too bad you moved it.

I'm 19, I swim for the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. Apparently being a swimmer implies that I'm young and/or immature. Apparently it's also pretty amusing. I appreciate your immediate judgment. ;)
