New update:

I got a nice pink stylopora this week. I also moved some corals around, but mostly they are getting glued down and won't be moved again. My new year's resolution is to leave this tank alone and just let the corals grow. I think they all deserve a break from me!

Thanks everyone for your compliment. I am still not happy about the output to be honest. The trouble with this tank is the close proximity of the MH to the water and the size. With this lighting setup I end up with extremely directional light that's very very contrasty. Perhaps I will need to give high dynamic range thingie a go.

DarthBaiter, Acropora crabs are perfectly safe. I have at least 5 in my tank and they all pick their favorite hard coral to host. I feed them everyday, so they are very tame and will actually grab onto the baster to demand for food.

I am using a 150w DE 20K bulb with an Osram 150w E-ballast. The bulb is from a local supplier here in Sydney called "Coralights" and I believe they mentioned that it was made in Taiwan.

We organised a huge group buy for these bulbs and got them for AUD$35ea (USD$27ea). I am very happy with the color. Human eyes are quite poor at judging intensities in the blue spectrum, but I would say the perceived kelvin rating would be somewhere between 16000K to 18000K.

Oh and before I forget, the color balance is done by dialing in a K value into the camera. This is the "K" mode for color balance. I use 5500K for the setting. The accuracy changes depending on where you are shooting within the tank, but it's pretty accurate overall. I came upon this value via trial-n-error.
