I am getting ready to start a 120g reef and am getting ideas together from the posts here. I have a question about what exactly are you guys cleaning out if your circ pumps? If it is calcium deposits, and vinegar will break it down. Why wouldn't you have a valve on the inlet side and outbound side to and from a bucket of vinegar and ro for this instead of physically removing the pump? You would obviously have to valve the main supply and output as not to mix this in the display. I used to design paint circ pump systems for the Auto industry and this was common practice for this very reason, just throw a couple ball valves and flush away. I'd love to get some feedback on this, as I have not tried this on a reef, yet. Only a paint system, with a very similar set up.

I've already got true union ball valves on both sides of the pump for removal. For as often as I descale the pump (once a year) extra pumping not worth the effort, but no reason wouldn't work
