Shaar - yeah that rock shaped like a cute hippo holding an open umbrella would be every bit as cute as you described!

Mark me in as coming to the swap - but I have NOTHING to frag aside from my dead stuff cycling in my tank. I may have some live rock to trade if someone needs some for some nicer (larger) sps maybe?

Matt
When I was in the shop you mentioned that you planned to make a tank available to place frags so they would have time to acclimate before the swap. Are you ready to receive them yet?
fewells
02/24/2007, 08:23 AM
My frag tank in the store is what we will be using again. It is ready and any time you all want to bring in corals you can feel free. I will have one side of my cube for the swap. If everyone can "tag" their corals somehow to identify it as yours that would benefit everyone. I don't know how you would do this but it might make everything easier.

Ok guys and gals I am already planning for our next frag swap. I would like it to be just more than a swap. Does anyone have any ideas that they would like to see. I was thinking about getting someone to come and give a demo on "proper" fragging tecnique. Perhaps a mj mod demo. I am working on skimmer mods to get the most out of inexpensive skimmers. I have seen other frag swaps where vendors came in and did demos of their products Pfo came to one and showed off their solaris fixture. I think that it would be cool to get this club growing. I do not think that I am going to be able to get vendors to come and entertain 15 or 20 people. So we all need to get the word out next time to get more people in from other areas. I would like to see some people for KC and STL coming to trade with us.
I will announce the next date at the swap so we can get our stuff together.
John,
If you have any literature for the seas or mabye a banner I could display to get the word out I would be glad to use my space to advertise for you. If you have any art work I might be able to make something. I would like to see more people in the club and keep the interest in the hobby.

Matt, i'd be up for the mj mod demo and definately the fragging demo. Those sound good. Maybe we could all make aragocrete (sp?) rocks or frozen fish food?
Also if need be, if you get some little flyers or posters made to promote the club and meets/frag swaps, i can post them around MSU on the public bulletin boards in all the buildings. I can also give the biology department another try on their nudibranch culture they were doing last semester. I may be able to start something up there since i'm in the department now.
I'll post up more ideas if anything crosses my mind

An mj mod demo would be cool. I've been interested in investigating it, but just don't have the time to get into it right now.
I would like to see some people for KC and STL coming to trade with us. I think Jefferson City has a small SW group too.

Thanks everyone for a great time! It was good to meet and talk with so many new people. Thanks Matt for the hot dogs, and Pat for the soda, and anyone else who brought muchies (the chips ahoy were a nice touch :D). Also, a big thanks to Tim Brill (tbrill) for bringing his huge show-piece sized montipora cap and sharing it with everyone. If I remember correctly, that piece originally came from John Stephens (LargeJohn) several years ago when it was much smaller.
In the past, there hasn't been much organization over the actual "swapping" of the frags. Since there were so many unfamiliar faces at this meet, writing the owners names on the tank in front of their frags and then wearing a name tag seemed to work well. Once the swapping was underway, it went smoothly. I hope everyone was pleased with the outcome.
We were supposed to have a rock making demo and I'm sorry we didn't get to it. I promise we will next time...........soon everyone will need to be making a bunch of frag rocks for swaping more frags! It's easy to do.

If we set a date now for the next swap, I'll ask off right now so i'm guaranteed to be there :)
I'll be leaving for the philippines on may 18th for 2 weeks, so sometime before then hopefully!
Oh, and i'm sure i'll have a ton of frags since i swapped over to the 130 last night. Everything opened up twice as much under the mh's :) I had a big smile on my face last night!
Hope to meet the rest of you sometime soon.
I think the diy rock will be awesome to do next time, or diy food (we each bring something from the grocery store to the swap, then start the blender!)
