Hello: I bought a second hand ORP/PH controller off ebay very cheap and I am not sure about the readings I am getting. The settings for high and low are 35 and 05 and the temperature measures in ÂșC. When i first turned it on it started out at 18 in the air and in the water stabilized at 06. I am wondering what type of reading it is Dissolved Oxygen? It has a platinum ORP probe and came in a solution to protect it. The unit is a Cole Parmer model 5656-00.

Those numbers don't really tell me much.

Are the probes hooked up and in tank water?

The high and low things are set points for the controller, not readings.

It does not read dissolved oxygen. With appropriate probes, it can read ORP or pH.

Hello Randy, Yes the probes are in the water. I have learned that this is a Jenco 3671N. I am talking with someone from the factory. I am waiting to see if the temperature probe is the correct one. I don't have very much at all in this so if it turns out to be bad it is no real loss. The local fish store seems to be pushing this technology now, but my tank is new and just now into its cycle. So it is not even needed now, if ever, since I have read your article. Maybe I will use it to monitor ORP and PH with different probes. Someone once told me the best solution for polution is dilution. I am going to consult these boards more than listen to the LFS. Thanks, Johnny

I would not generally bother meaasuring ORP unless you are using ozone.

Good luck. :)
