I would love to have a FOWL setup but my wife would like to set up a reef tank b/c she says she has never seen a FO setup that looked attractive. she wants to see a picture of a good looking FOWL setup in order to be convinced. anybody have any pics or know of any links to such a picture? thanks.

Well you could try both. Alot of aggresive fish won't mess with certain types of corals. I would think stony corals would be out but alot of softies are unedible to most fish. Try mixing and matching and see if you find a combo that works.

I agree Sean, I currently have a quasi-reef with mushrooms and zoanthids, but also have some some fish that aren't typical of a reef system such as a goldentail moray. You just need to do hardier corals that can withstand higher nitrates. One potential problem with such a system can be excessive algae growth. The higher nitrates from such fish, combined with the higher wattage lighting can fuel algae growth, but it can still be managed. Is it my imagination, or does the tank pictured above have some corals growing? If it does, then most people would call anything with any corals, even if just a few, a true reef tank.

Some of the most impressive FO tanks are 220gal or larger. I have seen some great smaller tanks buy you are more limited on the fish selection and i think angels will help with the appeal of a FO tank. JMO

clekchau, what type of live rock is in that tank? I love the jagged appearance.

That's not checkau's tank he was just posting it to show what a nice fowlr tank looks like. That is actually hdtvguy's tank and he hangs out in the fish only forums all the time. That is an old picture. He has way more fish and corals in it now. It is a real stunner.

Why have both in one aquarium??? Why not convince here that you need another aquarium for the "sump" of the first and make that one a fowlr??? Worked on my wife!!!! :)
