Can I use Saltwater from the Ocean near my home

I live near Tarpon Springs FL and the water is clear about 5 miles offshore.

My question is can I collect SW out in the Gulf filter it then use it for my reef tanks?

I boat and dive and have the ability to get 20gal or so each trip.

Can I do this with out harmful effects?

I would not collect SW durring Red Tide season but from now untill
the water temp rises above 75 it seems like I could save money from buying salt.

What do you think?

Yes, that sounds like a fine plan, but I'd use it all at once. Storing NSW is tricky and may require filtration and other treatments. there are many threads in this forum on using NSW if you search for them. :)
