Anyone using these or have any opinions on their reliability and ability to hold consistent temperatures? There seem to be many on the market and they appear to be very inexpensive (under $30 for 300W) which makes me very nervous. Anyone with experience with them? Any brand Preference? Are they better than the Visitherm Stealth?

Most are pretty good but I too like insurance. On my old 130 I used 3--2 in the sump and 1 in the main. One of the sump heaters and the main tank heater were set for 80° F while the second sump unit was set for 78° F. In your case I might consider using two 100 watt heaters.

I wouldn't own anything else anymore. I use the ViaAqua Titanium and they have been great. They are always +/- 1 degree.

But I'd still buy two smaller ones than one biggin Rat.

Yep, two smaller ones is a smart move. I live in Phoenix and my heaters don't run much, if at all, and I am guilty of only having one per tank though!

I used a glass for awhile and it crapped out on me. So then i bought a titanium and it lasted for about 10 months and then tried to freeze my tank. I'm back to trying a glass now...

I have had 2 300w Proheat titanium heaters for over 3 years now with no problems.

I have read some people on RC say the Proheat heaters are junk but mine have been working for over 3 years with no problems.

I even pull one out to heat up my water change water in my very cold and uninsulated garage, works great.

Thanks all. I think I will get a couple and see how they work for me.
