do you need to turn off the powerheads in the tank when you feed your fish? I've been leaving everything on,, and the food keeps circulating in the tank- not sure if thats right or not.

Different people hae different opinions. Most agree that shutting off the skimmer is good, so that you are not pullin food out before it is eaten by your livestock/corals.

I allows leave my pumps on. I actually deliver/release food right into the stream of my powerheads and sump return lines. I do this becaues I think the fish respond better to the food when it is propelled through the tank. Moreover, the stream helps to drive food down to the lower strata of the tank where my inverts (crabs, snails, cucumber, etc) reside.

So I personally leave them on and have had great success.

I use a reefkepper computer thing that shuts off the pumps for 10min (adjustable) when I feed. If I don't a ton of food get sucked into the overflows

I like to leave the PH's on, makes it a bit more challenging for my lazy fish =D
