Is this Skimmer any good?
I really do not want to spend $300 for a new skimmer for my 29.
If you have one how well does it skim?
Would you or have you modified it in any way?
What are it's pros and cons?

I have a typhoon and I like it a lot. It is built well, and skims well. I collect between 12-24 ounces of wet skimmate a day from my 55 gallon Fowlr. I am playing around with adding an airpump to the unit and it seems to increase its efficiecy, but it works well out of the box and for $68 it is a great buy!

Who sells this for $68? Lowest I've seen is like $75 or more.

It's pretty loud. I thought I had just gotten a really noisy one....had em ship another...same deal. Works really well however.

Kody, you have it on your 100g reef?

I had it on my 100 gallon for a while, it actually worked very well, but I eventually upgraded and now have a 92 corner with a tunze 9010. I have the typhoon on a 55 gallon fowlr and it pulls out quite a bit each day (one huma huma, one yellow tang and one damsel are the inhabitants along with rock). I used the typhoon to skim my 100 gallon vat (had to move everything out to put in the new tank) during the transition and all went well (about three weeks or so).

Kody,
Have you thought of doing a recirc mod to it?

I couldn't get mine to work for a long time. It still doesn't do a good job. All the bubbles shoot out into the tank. I thought that putting an O-ring around the outside of the inner plastic tube and I still get tons of bubbles. The Skimate (sp.) that t does put out isnt dirty or brown at all its just white foam. I dont know if I have it set up wrong or what but I'd love any advice I can get.

Thank all of you.
The responses make me wonder what is a good skimmer at a good price for my 29.

Did you have a chance to compare the Typhoon and the Tunze on the same system? What was the difference in collection rate and skimmate quality?

Thanks!
