What is HGH?

Human Growth Hormones.

I've heard they use that in those tanks too. The tanks are incredible, but they do some questionable things to get them like that.

well I' read some of the people say that the tanks would still look great without HGH but they get incredible growth from the corals. The fish dont grow any faster and the HGH I think enables the corals to feed on whats in the water faster, anotherwords the HGH is letting them feed better but HGH is not the food itself. Maybe similiar to the way the coral snow from Zeovit is. Coral Snow is not a food itself but helps the corals take in stuff thats put into the tank for them by us.

quick summary; the HGH is put into a gelatinous food cube that is then frozen. slices are cut off of it and because it was frozen, it breaks down into amino acids that the corals can use. The non human growth hormone (it is synthetic) is not the food. They are getting ready to document the process and publish it in reefkeeping italia.com magazine, identifying what amino acids work.

You ought to check out Palletta's book, "Ultimate Marine Aquariums". The best part is that the owners document what is in the tank, what equipment is used, how often they feed and how the lighting scheme works, among other tid bits of info.
I'm also prowd to say I have actually seen a few of the tanks featured, in person.
