Wanted to know who has angels w/ their clams and what kind you have. I have wanted to add a small angel to my mixed reef for some time but am worried about my clam and other coral. Especially my babby, a 12in. squamosa. I was looking into a flame, eibl's, or a sm. regal. I know of a local tank that has a good sized regal in with sps and clams that dose just fine, but wanted to hear some others experiences. Thanks for any information you have!

Depends on individual fish temperament but all the dwarf angels I have had, (flame, bicolor) baaad nippers.

all angels can be bad nippers, even if the seem fine at first. they can snap suddenly and start nipping. the large angels are a definite no, and the pygmy's are a 50/50 chance at the beginning and like i said can snap 2 years later and go on a killing spree.

take a look at this (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=6991585#post6991585)

i know this wasn't a pygmy but it gives you a good idea as to what can happen.

Thanks for the advice! I probably won't try an angel, because I favor my clams over an angel any day.
I would love to hear if anybody has had any success with this subject.
Thanks!

I had a flame angel that was fine for about 10 months, then he started nipping at my clam.

The Flame is the angel I was strongly considering, but after further advice and research I think I better reconsider because I love my clams.
Thanks!

I had a flame for a year with no trouble. I also had a regal with no trouble. I lost both fish to an ich out break last month though.

Thanks for the info. It is good to hear that your flame and regal gave you no problems, because they are two of my favorites. I might try a regal sometime and just keep him in quarantine longer to get used to prepared foods. Or just get another tank for my clams or angel!ļ
