I have a 75G tank w/4" dsb. Right now I have two ph's and a return pump totalling 2250 gph for 30 times turnover.

Due to the 4" dsb taking up space in the tank this effectively reduces my tank size to 62G. In other words, my tank would be the same as a 62G tank running BB. A 62G tank running bb with these ph's and return pump would be turning over 37X per hour. (enough for some sps)

I'm looking to add a few montipora, as well as some other less light demanding sps. So......What's my current rate of flow? 30, or
37??

Why is the question riduculous? I can't increase flow much more without creating a sandstorm. Some of the flows people quote seem a bit rediculous to me. 80x...100x...You can only do that with a bb tank.

I definetly think you could give montiporas a shot, assuming lighting and water parameters are also in line. My 30 Breeder is currently running about 33x turnover, not taking into account displacement from sand or rocks. That's actually after taking out an extra Seio 620 b/c I wanted to cut down on sand storms and mix up my reef more.

i run about 60x in my 58g with 4" dsb ;)

What type ph's? How is your return plumbed?

Thanks guys. I'm running two seio 820's and an Iwaki return from a 29G sump. I have two seio 1100's but the sand storm becomes an issue with them. I also have an RBTA, and he didn't look to crazy about the high flow either. He has not moved since the day he went into the tank. (10 months ago). I don't want him ticked off by too high a flow, yet want enough for more sps. I have a couple of 3 month old monti caps that are showing good growth. Params are in check, and the tank is very stable:

ALK 9.3
Calcium 430
pH 8.1-8.22 (pinpoint)
Mag. 1320
A,N,N all undetectable
fuge w/cheato
Lights are a ton of vho. 2 Icecap ballasts and 6 bulb configuration for 630 watts.

Try the 1100's in different patterns....like against eachother...or for long stretches instead of immediately off glass down towards sand.

Already have eagles. It was a 4 hour sandstorm, and then I switched back to the 820's.

hmmm...even angled upwards? that is suprising to me, since i run a tunze 6000 (amd more) in my 36" 58g.

Also, I wonder what the true flow of the seio's is when they are run outside of their case (tunze style), like I do. Seems to be more flow from them than what they are rated for. I'm wondering if their flow rating is based upon running them inside their cases, the way they are when you first open the boxes.

Eagles, how deep is your dsb? How much rock? Mine is 4" w/100lbs lr. The rockwork is very open in the front and back, so about all I can do is angel them up and bounce it off the glass.
