Inside the overflow box, which is better? One drain line or two?

A local shop insists that having two drain lines within the overflow makes for more control of the flow through the lines and a quieter overflow.

Is there any truth to this? Are two really better than one? Does it even make a difference?

This is for a small tank . . . not a lot of volume will be moving through these lines BTW (approx. 200gph)

One large one will be better than two medium sized ones. Unless they are at the same height, only one of the drains will probably do anything with the flow your talking about.

For 200 gph you should have no worry at all. I'd say just make one drain at either 1.25in or 1.5in diameter. That will be more than enough.

I will use two, one higher than the other. If a snail or fish gets trapped you will prevent an overflow and a wet carpet.

i use 2 on my 55. one with a gate valve and the other is open i run about 700gph though it is easy to tune. but 200gph... One is fine, just use a durso and a guard over the intake and you will be good

Thanks for the replys. I think that I will put two 1" drains at the same height with one line controlled by a gate valve to help control flow through the overflow.

Thank you!
