I have a new all-glass 120 gallon (48x24x24) with dual overflows on order. Does anyone know how much room I need in my refuge to contain the water in the event my pump shuts down?
I can do the math I just don't know the height of the overflows.

A 40gallon sump is good. But mostly it depends on the water height in the sump and the pump used.

Yea, 40 would be fine, even a 30 gal long would be fine. Make sure you put a durso pipe on the drains. Keep the amount of water that drain if the pumps cut off to a minimum. It also keep the noise from the water fall down also. I just set-up my 120 myself.

Thanks for the info. Can I ask you to measure the distance from the top of the tank to bottom of where the water flows in to the overflow box. Thanks again.

I used to have an AGA 120 with the pine stand. The 30 long was the biggest sump I could get into the stand and it only went in through the top of the stand. It would not fit in the front or back of the stand. Which means once its setup, short of draining the 120 and removing it, you are stuck with that sump.

I kept the sump a little more than half filled and it had plenty of room in the event of a power outage.

I dont have it anymore so cant take any measurements for you, sorry.
