Dam they need to change there name. I got a Quiet One 3000 pump 780 gph, as a new sump return pump for my 55g and hate it. it is louder than my old Mag 7.

when I hook up 4' of 1'' pipe and a 3/4'' lock-line the pump gets LOUD! it sounds like the shaft or impeller is hitting soumthing.

I have the same pump and it's been great. I replaced a mag 9.5 which was overpowering my overflow. The tank now runs cooler and quieter.

i took it apart and looks good, no sign of wear or rubbing. when the pump has nothing attached to it, it is quiet. just when the flow is slowed down then it gets loud. is this normal for a pump to get loud when the flow is restricted?

P.S. It flows a lot more water than the mag 7:thumbsup:

I had a 4000 on a closed loop for a little over two years and was very happy with it. It made a little noise right after cleaning the impeller but once the air passed through in a few hours it was quiet again. I came home from work one day and noticed my chiller was reuuning non stop and when I reached in the tank to feed or something electricity bit me! I traced it down to the 4000 and replaced it with another OceanRunner 3500 and all is well. I still think the 4000 was a good pump, maybe I just wore it out?

ill just let it brake in and give it a shot. it is quiet when running with no pipe on the outlet.

Try putting a piece of flexible tubing on it. The PVC may be magnifying the sound since its ridgid.

It is not a vibration, it sounds like a mechanical prob. but only when i slow down the flow. ie, pipe, or finger by the outlet to raise the pressure (not inlet).
