I have two percula clowns in my reef tank. I have had them for about a year. They seem too go through bouts of twitching spells. They have always done this that I can remember. They seem healthy in every other way. They eat good and have had good growth since I have had them. Does this sound normal or are my clowns epeleptic(spelling?)? Thanks for the input.

I guess it's a pairing thing, my new clown does it to my older clown and I asked about it.

Yeah, often the smaller/male of the pair will do this to signal submission to the dominant female.

How can I tell which sex they are. They are about the same size and other than one being a little darker on top there coloration is about the same.

if there's one that's slightly larger that's your female, and also as I understand it, it should be one clown doing the shaking all the time, and not both of them. The one that shakes is your male.

Both clowns can do "the shake" actually. The female shakes back to say "thats right, I'm in charge". The tomatoes I used to have did this and my Clarki's I have now both shake ....

Oh...just shows to know that no matter how much you read about something, you can always learn something new.

my male false perc shakes, my female shakes very rarely. and when she does it's usually in the sand.

My nigripes do it too. They do it a little differently though as the male will side shake at the female whilst the female will shake with head facing the male.

Clowns are weird.
