Just wondering if anyone out there has a large Maxima clam 8+" in there tank. Also, has anyone ever seen any large Maximas for sale? Online, lfs? Thanks!

clams don't ship too well when they reach a larger mature size, so i would say most don't have maximas that size.
my maxima is 6 inches but i hope it stays that size :)

Thats cool, I figured that was probably one of the reasons I don't see many. Did you buy yours that big? Or did you buy it smaller and grow it? If so, how long did it take :)?

I figured that someone on here would have some larger maximas but theres not really a ton of people surfin the clam pages these days. I have a 5" Maxima that I bought when it was 3" and it grows fairly fast for a clam.

Also, does anyone know how long it would take to grow a maxima to a more mature size of 8+" if you bought it at say 4"?

they grow exponentially slow, as in the larger they get, the slower they grow

my LFS brings them in but Canada might be a bit much of a drive for you. here's a pic from last time i was in, he's an 8" wild caught teardrop.

Here's my previous rainbow teardrop. It got to a little over 8" before I traded it away.

It's partially true that they don't ship as well in large sizes, but a major factor is an 8" clam takes more then half a box to ship. That's a lot of frieght for a low return when compaired to other items that could fill that space.
