the filters will pull out all the fine particles. I say turn them on. If you have some refillable filter media you can change out, all the better.

Takes me 24 hours when I've been very careful adding the sand, rinsing it thoroughly a couple times and pouring through rigid tubing to prevent too much dust. Could take longer if the sand wasn't thoroughly rinsed or added towards the bottom of the aquarium. Plus my aquariums are significantly smaller than yours, I don't know if that has any impact on the time. In the future, if you add sand before water, put a plate or something on the sand to pour the water on so it doesn't pour directly onto the sand. If you add sand after water, pour it through rigid tubing so it goes directly to the bottom and has less opportunity to float out into the water column.

at least turn some powerheads on for water movement while it settles - otherwise if you turn everything on after it settles, well, it won't be settled no more!

That's like asking if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound?

Dude, you gotta sit and wait and see how long it takes. Like someone said, turn a powerhead on for some water movement. Otherwise play it by ear. If it were me I would have turned everythin on by now. What is still suspended probably should be filtered out. Otherwise, when you add rocks and what not it'll be back again, floating around like it is now
