I have a 40 bdr and want to use a 10gallon as a sump. Is that large enough?

is it just for a skimmer and media or are you going to try and make a refugium out of it too. If no refugium it'll do, but I would personally go with a 20g under a 40bdr.

I think since this is my first sump I'll skip the fuge at this point. It's all very confusing

I'd also use a 20G for a sump under a 40B.

I decided to buy a MegaFlow sump. I know it's expensive but I am not a DIY'r by any means. The MegaFlow 2 has a total volume of appx 24 gallons. I would think that is plenty
Now, when it comes to a return pump I need some assistance... I measured from where I think the pump will be in the stand to the top of the tank & it comes to around 3.5 feet. What would be an acceptable pump size? I'm sure I left some important info out so please let me know. ;)
